D.A.R.E.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education
D.A.R.E. is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids make healthy decisions and wise choices. D.A.R.E. is taught by Detective Doug Anderson of the McPherson Sheriff’s Office and is co-sponsored by the Lindsborg Police Department. Detective Doug can be reached at 620-245-1232, or by email.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse recently released the 2004 Monitoring the Future (MTF) survey. The MTF survey showed a 6 percent decrease in illegal drug use by teenagers between 2003 and 2004. Over the past three years there has been a 17% decrease in teenage drug use. This is real progress, and although we cannot take complete credit, there is no question that D.A.R.E. is a key component of the efforts made to achieve these results. Bottom line – there are now 600,000 fewer teens using drugs than there were in 2001.

Congratulations to all D.A.R.E. officers for your dedication and commitment to helping the nation’s children resist drugs and violence.
