Trailer for the Colorado Public Television PBS Documentary "Sandzén: Ecstasy of Color"

Raised in Vastergotland Sweden, Birger Sandzén after studying art in Stockholm and Paris, moved to Lindsborg Kansas at the age of 23 in 1894. Influenced by post-impressionism and the Swedish National Movement, Sandzén found himself entranced by the wide opened spaces and the brilliant light of the American West. A landscape painter compelled by the colors of nature, Sandzén created energetic original mountain and prairie scapes that are truly modern, forging a link from impressionism to abstraction. This documentary follows Sandzén from his Swedish roots to his new homeland in Kansas and on through his many summers spent painting in the Rocky Mountains.
