May 1, 2017 – 6:30 p.m.

meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Taylor and the Pledge of
Allegiance was said. The Invocation was
given by Pastor Bill Buschbom.
Public Input – none
Amendments to the
Mayor’s Report – Mayor Taylor thanked
those involved with Lindsborg in Bloom. A
successful event even with the rain! The
council position for Ward 4 is open. If
anyone has a recommendation, please contact Mayor Taylor. Triple A World Magazine featured Coronado
Heights! It is time to fill Citizen
Committee vacancies. If interested,
contact City Hall.
Consent Agenda – Betty Nelson moved to
approve the minutes of the April 17, 2017 regular council meeting, Payroll
Ordinance 5043 and Purchase Order Ordinance 5044. Motion seconded by Emile Gallant and passed
unanimously by roll call vote.
Nelson moved to approve the appointment of Sherry Jerome to the Emergency
Medical Service. Motion seconded by
Blaine Heble and passed.
Planning & Zoning –
AUTO SWITCH FOR GENERATOR – PUBLIC SAFETY – Emile Gallant moved to approve the
purchase of an automatic transfer switch plus installation from Pestinger’s
Heating and Air conditioning at a cost of $2,100.00. Cost to be split between the Fire Department
and the Police Department. Motion
seconded by Mark Friesen and passed unanimously by roll call vote.
WESTERN AREA POWER AUTHORITY (WAPA) –
FIVE YEAR INTEGRATED RESOURCE PLAN – Blaine Heble moved to approve the updated
Integrated Resource Plan in compliance with the Western Area Power
Administration hydropower allocation.
Motion seconded by Emile Gallant and
New Business – 2016 AUDIT REPORT – Betty
Nelson moved to accept the 2016 Audit as presented by Adams, Brown, Beran &
Ball. Motion seconded by Mark Friesen and
J O SUNDSTROM EVENT MANAGER – Emile
Gallant moved to approve the Event Manager job description and authorized staff
to hire an Event Manager for the J O Sundstrom Conference Center. Motion seconded by Mark Friesen and passed.
J O SUNDSTROM MANAGEMENT CONTRACT – Betty
Nelson moved to approve the contract with Yours Truly for conference center
management through the end of 2017 in the amount of $26,250.00. Motion seconded by Corey Peterson and passed
unanimously by roll call vote.
CHIPPER – Betty Nelson moved to approve
the purchase of the Bandit Model 150XP chipper from Fairbank Equipment in the
amount of $30,360.80. Motion seconded by
Emile Gallant and passed unanimously by roll call vote.
Executive Session - none
Department Head Reports – PUBLIC WORKS – Chris
Lindholm updated council on the continuing transition in the department. Denny Walker has been promoted to Wastewater
Superintendent and Cutler Croomes will begin 18 months of classes to become
certified for WWTP.
SAFETY – Chief Berggren reported that spring cleanup has begun and the
department will put more emphasis on code enforcement in the coming weeks. There also need to be a reminder to the
citizens to not blow grass clippings into the streets.
– Holly Lofton reported on recent and upcoming events at the Sundstrom. She also noted that this is the last year of
the Kansas Sampler Festival and the giveaway at the event will be seed packets
with an invitation to come to Coronado Heights to spread the seeds.
